Cape Cod Cooperative Bank announces newly elected corporators

HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS, MAY 20, 2008 … Joel G. Crowell, President of Cape Cod Cooperative Bank, is pleased to welcome two newly elected corporators to the Bank’s mutual holding company, Coastal Affiliates, MHC, elected April 10, 2008. Sara L. Whitely, CFO, Vernon Whiteley, Inc.; and Greg O’Brien, editor, Stony Brook Group recently joined the corporation. “These individuals are well recognized leaders in their communities and we feel their experience and enthusiasm will be an outstanding addition,” said Mr. Crowell.

Sara L Whiteley, Co-Owner/CFO W. Vernon Whiteley, Inc. graduated from Tufts University in 1996 with a BS in Civil Engineering and worked for Haley & Aldrich in Cambridge, MA as a geotechnical engineer for projects such as the Central Artery “Big Dig” and numerous foundation restorations in the Back Bay area of Boston.

In the summer of 1998, she returned to her hometown roots in Chatham, and partnered with her brother, Eric, to take over the ownership of W. Vernon Whiteley, Inc, a third generation family plumbing and heating business begun by their grandfather in 1952. Together they have built up the company into a successful organization employing over 50 people while still maintaining a local, small business relationship with their community and are committed to giving back to the community in which they live and work.

When time allows, Ms. Whiteley appreciates living on Cape Cod, sailing and gardening and the flexibility to pursue her passion, world travel.

Greg O’Brien, editor and president of Stony Brook Group, a publishing and political/communications strategy company based in Brewster that he began in 1993, has more than 25 years of newspaper and magazine experience as a writer, editor, investigative reporter and publisher.

He is former editor and publisher of The Cape Codder and Register newspapers, former editor of Cape Cod Life, and was a founding managing director of Community Newspaper Company in Boston, one of the nation’s largest community newspaper companies. He is the editor/author of four books, has published 15 books by other writers, has been a writer/producer of video documentaries, and has been a television scriptwriter.

Over the years, he has contributed, among other publications, to the Associated Press, UPI, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, The Arizona Republic, Boston Herald American, Boston Metro, New York Metro, Philadelphia Metro, The Providence Journal, the Boston Irish Reporter and Boston Magazine where he was senior writer.

O’Brien is also host and executive producer of Country Journal, a Comcast cable television news interview program aired on Cape Cod, and has been a television scriptwriter for America At Worship, a nationally syndicated television program that was produced in Manhattan and aired on The Hallmark Channel.

O’Brien is a longtime member of the Nauset School Committee, on which he has served as chairman and vice chairman, and is a former trustee of the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster. He lives in Brewster with his wife, Mary Catherine. The couple has three children; Brendan, Colleen and Conor.
