S. Kyle Hinkle has been named Executive Director of the Brewster Chamber of Commerce effective July 6, 2009. In this part-time position, she will be overseeing the daily operations of the organization and working with the board of directors to complete their strategic plan, and conduct a complete program review with emphasis on board and member development. “Brewster is known to visitors for its elegant sea captains’ homes that are now B&B’s and restaurants, and for its wonderful antique and art galleries” she said. “But Brewster also has a large and vibrant population of professionals and trades people that can benefit from Chamber membership.”
Brewster Chamber Board chairman Norm Michaud said “We are extremely pleased that Kyle has accepted this position as the Chamber looks forward to enhancing its service to the business community. Her vast experience serving local chambers of commerce and consulting in board development to local public charities, along with her volunteer involvement with civic leagues makes her uniquely qualified to help us at this time.”
Ms. Hinkle has a 34 year background in business management with the last 15 years spent serving as CEO for non-profit organizations including San Angelo Nature Center, San Angelo, TX; Orleans Chamber of Commerce, Orleans, MA; and Highlands Center Inc., N. Truro, MA. She has demonstrated leadership skills training boards of directors, staff and volunteers, and working with community leaders. She has simultaneously run her own public relations consulting business for the past 10 years.
Ms. Hinkle holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications/public relations from Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX. She has attended the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’ Institute for Organization Management at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA, and holds Diamond Grading and Gem Identification Certificates from the Gemological Institute of America, Santa Monica, CA.
She also has over 120 hours of basic and advanced skills mediation training through Cape Mediation, and from 1998 – 2000 volunteered through the MA Attorney General’s Alternative Dispute Resolution program mediating small claims cases in Orleans and Barnstable District Courts. She is a 2003 graduate of Community Leadership Institute: Leadership Cape Cod and a 2006 graduate of Rotary International’s Rotary Leadership Institute.
Ms. Hinkle is active in a number of professional organizations including the Cape Cod Technology Council, Rotary Club of Nauset (Orleans), Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce and American Business Women’s Association. She is currently serving a 3-year term as Treasurer for Rotary International District 7950 serving sixty-six Rotary Clubs in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. She also serves on Boards of Directors for a number of Cape-based public charities. She has served terms on the Town of Eastham’s Finance Committee and Conservation Commission, and is currently on the board of the Town’s Affordable Housing Trust.
A full-time resident of Eastham, Hinkle and her husband Harry moved to the Cape in 1997 following his retirement after 30 years of service in the United States Marine Corps.
