Joel G. Crowell, President of Cape Cod Cooperative Bank, is pleased to announce that Amy L. Dowd, Marketing Officer has been named Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Community Leadership Institute of Cape Cod and the Islands (CLI).
“This is a great organization that fosters and promotes local leaders to step up and serve Cape Cod by educating them to the issues and needs of our community,” said Mr. Crowell. “Amy is a 2005 graduate of CLI and we are very proud of her contribution to this program. She will certainly be an asset in her new role with the Board.”
CLI is associated with the National Association for Community Leadership and is an affiliated program of Cape Cod Community College. Their mission is to foster the growth of existing and potential community leaders locally. The Leadership Cape Cod Program is presented once each year from January through June. Program alumni and community leaders work with participants presenting discussions on topics such as healthcare, diversity, media, the environment, social services, business, the legal system, the arts, government and education.
A key element of the Leadership program is to provide the opportunity to meet with and interact with a cross-section of community leaders, as well as class participants from all walks of life to fully understand and resolve the community needs of Cape Cod and the Islands.
In addition to the classroom aspect of the program, the class is divided into smaller groups that identify, develop and complete community improvement projects. Past team projects have included the establishment of a community roundtable on domestic violence, a local media access guide, the development of an “After Care” program for probationers of the Barnstable First District Court, the development of a complete public relations campaign for Adult Literacy Awareness, and the design and construction of a parent pickup/dropoff location at Camp Lyndon.
