Drop off food at HarborOne to help needy families,

Published on Friday, November 21, 2008

PLYMOUTH – ‘Tis the season for helping others, especially with donations of food items. The Greater Plymouth Food Warehouse put out a desperate plea for such contributions and HarborOne Credit Union responded by agreeing to be a food collection center. Residents can donate nonperishable food items at the Plymouth branch any time during normal banking hours through the holidays.

To kick off the food drive, HarborOne Credit Union is offering free photos with Santa Claus to everyone who makes a food or monetary donation to help the hungry on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition, HarborOne will waive fees for coin counting to anyone who brings change to donate to the Greater Plymouth Food Warehouse. The donor will receive a receipt for the coins, which can be used to document the donation for tax purposes.

“We are pleased that HarborOne Credit Union has agreed to help us during this difficult time,” said Patricia A. Daly, Executive Director of the South Shore Community Action Council, which administers the Greater Plymouth Food Warehouse. “Because of these trying economic times, more people than ever need food assistance. We are working against tremendous odds to find enough food to assist those families who truly need help as the holidays approach.”

HarborOne Credit Union recently made a $500 donation to the South Shore Community Action Council to benefit the Greater Plymouth Food Warehouse, which supplies food pantries across the area. The money was used to provide food assistance to local families.

“We are proud to support the Greater Plymouth Food Warehouse during this time of need,” said Ed Alfieri, manager at the Plymouth branch of HarborOne. “These are difficult times for all of us, but there are many far less fortunate people who need the basic necessities such as food just to survive.”

A private not-for-profit organization, the South Shore Community Action Council provides a range of critical services to low-income individuals and families on the South Shore, and has toiled to combat the root causes of poverty in those communities. In addition to food distribution, programs and services include fuel assistance, weatherization, transportation, child care, consumer assistance, homeless assistance, community partnerships, emergency services, employment and training, financial literacy and asset development programs.
