The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank Charitable Foundation Trust held its Annual Meeting yesterday at the Cape Cinema in Dennis. Dorothy Savarese, Chairman of the Foundation, expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the many Foundation committee members who work hard throughout the year to review the increasing number of grant applications.
“We feel extremely fortunate to be in the position to provide over $600 thousand in support of the community.” Savarese added, “Funding is one essential element, but it truly makes a difference when it supports dedicated and well-run non-profit organizations. Whether it be to help put roofs over heads or food on tables, to add positive experiences to lives, to look out for the community’s general health and welfare, or to offer cultural and educational enrichment, our collective philanthropic efforts are what make this such a special place to live and work.”
It was reported that in 2007, over 150 Cape Cod non-profit organizations, teachers and scholarship recipients were awarded funding from the Cape Cod Five Foundation. The Foundation’s primary giving categories in 2007 were: Art, Culture and Other Community Services; Conservation and Environment; Health and Elder Services; Human Need and Economic Development; and Youth and Education. In addition, a number of multi-year commitments were made in support of critical Capital Campaigns.
The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank Charitable Foundation Trust is its namesake Bank’s primary vehicle for providing financial support to community organizations. As summarized by Savarese, “our underlying philosophy is based on the premise that doing business on Cape Cod and serving the community are inseparable. We continually measure our success at how well we do at both. Again, we thank all the non-profit staff, teachers and myriad volunteers working across the Cape who make it so rewarding!”
