Outer Cape Health Services appoints CEO search committee

Published on Thursday, August 28, 2008

Outer Cape Health Services Board has announced the creation of a Community Search Committee to enhance and strengthen the process of finding a new CEO. After four years at the helm, Henry N. Tuttle recently resigned to assume a similar position with Manet Community Health Center based in Quincy.

The Board has made the appointments to the Search Committee, which includes members of the OCHS staff, board and representatives of the four Outer Cape towns from where the majority of the more than 11,000 clinic’s patients reside: Eastham Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown.

In announcing the composition of the committee, OCHS Board President David Willard explained the board’s rationale. “Since OCHS is such a vital resource to the Outer Cape and the lives of its residents and visitors, it was such a natural for the Board to want and seek their input and participation in choosing the next CEO,” Willard said.

The Board has hired The Executive Suite of Hyannis to conduct the professional aspects of the process, which the board anticipates could take up to four months to complete. Elizabeth Harris-Moritz, president of The Executive Suite, said she will be working with OCHS Board member PJ Layng, who specializes in the medical and health professions.

The process, Willard explained, calls for these two professionals to implement the steps to attract qualified candidates. From the applications received, The Executive Suite and PJ Layng Associates will present to the Search Committee with a dozen applications meeting the qualifications for a final selection.

The Community Search Committee will make evaluations based on a pre-agreed metrics system of outlining what the organization needs in a leadership position. It will be the Search Committee who after initial interviews, will turn over their recommendations to the Board of OCHS, who will make the final decision.

The Search Committee chaired by Willard, who is Vice President and Director of Community Relations for The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, includes staff members Steve Lacy, MD and Medical Director; Dave Hale, CFO and COO;, and Kelli Smith, Director of Operations.

Board members include Sarah Gaoldston, Marshall Department stores on the Cape; John Hinckley,  Orleans Selectman,; and a member of the Mass Group Insurance Commission; Richard Brunson, recent past-President of OCHS; Ansel Chaplin, vice president of OCHS and an attorney; Curtis Hartman, current Truro Selectman; Lynn Mogell, owner of Heritage House in Provincetown; Denny O’Connell, a former OCHS Board member;  and Michael Cole, president of Cape Associates, Inc.

Outer Cape Health Services is a member of a partnership with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. That organization’s Senior Vice president of Operations Joanne Marqusee recently joined the OCHS Board. She has volunteered to be on the Search Committee.
